2017 Marketing Review

So I am calling Christmas... We've watched Die Hard, which definitely is a Christmas film. 100%. No argument. John McClane is at it again and boy oh boy what a guy. What better time to take a look back at the year? Let's look back at the advert and marketing campaigns... The good, the bad and the ugly.  Number one spot in my mind 100% goes to Bodyform - Blood Normal. BRAVO. If you've not seen it, check it out here .  For the first time ever, they've made periods normal... & it's amazing! Other highlights include... This Girl Can  - Yet again this campaign has kicked up a storm. Three - Who doesn't love a Sloth-Mermaid? Sainsbury's launched their Food Dancing campaign , I LOVE to dance in the kitchen whilst cooking.  Anddddd, my least favourite campaign hands down is this one . WHAT IS THIS?! Anyway, there's so many I could go on and on and on and on..... definitely want to hear what your campaign of the year is? Share in t

Christmas is coming...

It's been a while... again! Life had got in the way and a lot has happened since my last post. I am another year older, and maybe slightly wiser; new pad for the Chick-King family which is lush and then the nightmare of Christmas seems to have taken over! Absolutely convinced that Christmas is getting earlier and earlier each year, or maybe it's just me getting older? Really need to get my act together with the Christmas shopping though... On that note, here we are in the middle of November and by now all major supermarkets, retailers and online services have put the fear of Christmas into us all by releasing their festive adverts. Personally, this is one of the highlights in the run up to Christmas, so I've put together my top reviews of some of my favourite ads so far... Number one spot definitely goes to Marks and Spencer's - I LOVE Paddington, so hands down this is a winner! If you've not seen it and not already in love with this bear, then definitely watch

Social turns antisocial

Recently I have seen a few scary posts on social media. Things like "We used to say BRB, but now we are always connected". Seriously made me think. This has changed even in my lifetime. Yes, we are all connected, but at the same time how antisocial have we all become?! Majority of us sit behind a keyboard all day at work, the come home and sit on our phones, tablets and laptops. Social media has led to society being the exact opposite of the word social. There's less and less face to face interaction, and even phone calls! Recently I've been calling some of my friends to catch up with them and have a proper conversation! There is only so much someone can say over snapchat, Facebook and Twitter. It's really sad. We need to be more proactive before social media becomes all-consuming. Take days off, enjoy time with our family and friends. Let's be honest, social media is full of absolute rubbish these days anyway (ding ding, future blog to follow!) What do

Pumpkin Spice Latte anyone?

Important news is that I finally have a new laptop and my goodness it is dreamy. Thank you to Dell for being a dreamboat and manufacturing laptops that actually work! And I have been on my holibobs with the little Chick which was great (see previous blog). It's genuinely scary that October is here already. Where has this year gone?! October is a busy month for me, with a house move, birthday celebrations and all sorts going on. All exciting stuff. I've just got back from camping at Warwick Castle with my Girl Guides group - wet weather is less than ideal I can tell you that much! October also marks the starts my "CHICK GETS FIT" lifestyle (birthday calories do not count - right!?) and we will find out if we have got into the London Marathon - so exciting/nervous. I mean, if we do get accepted I will actually cry. 26 miles of hell! Right so I have lots of blog topics floating around everywhere and I really need to actually sit down and write them up - just a matt

Vitamin-Sea

My goodness I am officially sunkissed and so very relaxed. Everyone needs a bit of vitamin-sea every once in a while. Lying in the sunshine, soaking up those rays, reading and enjoying time. Seriously when was the last time I wasn't having a constant battle with time?! Reading a whole book has been glorious! This holiday has let me what quality time with my not-so-little sister, some time away from technology and time to really relax. Spending time with my family is so important to me, and it's lovely to have the opportunity to do so! Anyway, two more things I cannot recommend these enough.... Majorca - Amazing place, weather was lush and just a great, friendly place to relax. Baby Doll - this book is SO GOOD. It really is a must read. The main point of this waffling on was to encourage you all to take some time for yourself. Treat yo'self! Sure, it doesn't have to be a holiday, just take an hour a week to spend time with those you love or time for yoursel

Pooling your resources

Ive spent years building up my relationships and connections on social media, contacts from all walks of life. University, employment, connections from recommendations, friends of friends. And every one has their own skills, recommendations and opinions. This is great. I'm sure you are all the same and have a fantastic set of connections too. So why do more people not pool their resources? If we've spent so much time and effort in building these relationships, why not utilise them? Personally I use LinkedIn to ask questions when I need some additional help or I am looking for a recommendation for software or something like that. It's such a great tool and a brilliant social media platform full of professionals. More people should ask questions, ask for assistance with how to do something or what to use. If we have a connection who has a skill we are missing why not ask them for advice or outsource? It's not a weakness, it's using your initiative!  Ta

Tiny screen, trying to type...

You'll have to bear with me at the moment, my awful laptop has finally gone back to the shop and I am having to write things on my phone - surprisingly difficult! So I am waiting patiently for the laptop I want to come back into stock...! Anyway, hello, welcome, welcome. Lots has happened since the last blogs, too much for me to bore you with! I have actually got a load of blog topics that are half in the can, which I've been scribbling down in the back of my diary or on scraps of paper. So watch this space. Mostly marketing and social stuff - exciting! There's lots to discuss isn't there! Side note..... how fast has the summer gone?! Obviously the sun himself has taken a little vacation and is avoiding Britain! Joy. It's almost time for the kids to go back to school and everyone's commute to double. So glad I've got my holidays to look forward to in a few weeks, really should get that sorted! Girls holiday with my sister, cannot wait! So check back so

Being a Millennial in 2017....

It's 2017 and I am in my mid-20s. Not gunna lie, it's hard! I mean, why oh why are we all expected to be happy alllllll the time? The pressures on us from social media, the media, advertising and each other is unbelievable. Luckily, my friends and family support me in everything I do, and there's no pressure between any of my friendship group. There seems to be this unwritten competition between millennials and Generation Z to be the best in careers, love life, looks, BLAH BLAH BLAH. Who cares? Life is way to short for all that. When is everyone going to wake up and smell the coffee? (mmmm coffee!) We've grown up in a digital era, with pressures from the likes of Instagram and SnapChat increasing every day. I absolutely hate how reliant I am on my phone - genuinely get angry and upset that I sit on my phone all evening looking at utter crap rather than talking to my family. Life has changed so much since my parents were in their 20s and to be honest, their 20s sound

Is Facebook dying?

So I am in my mid 20s and have grown up with Facebook...my profile has been with me since 2007 so happy 10th birthday to my Facebook profile. Woo. Despite my best efforts to stick to MySpace, it wasn't to be and my emo phase had to come to an end. Sob. Now in the past 10 years I have deactivated my account several times - either for a social media detox or because I've been tired of people being so obsessed with my business (e.g break up, NONE of your business person who I haven't spoken to in 3 years ok love?) Anyway, there is no denying it that over those 10 years Facebook has changed. Social media has evolved and the number of platforms has increased, Instagram and all sorts have burst onto the market place. Hello vain selfies and cat pictures. But back to the point... I don't know about you, but my Facebook wall is now just covered in memes, videos and pure rubbish. The only thing I now post is pictures from my holidays, nights out and the odd cat picture - le

Hello, it's me.

I know it's been forever and a day since I last wrote on here but I have been a busy little bee and life has just got in the way. SO much has happened, all exciting though, so let me catch you up. The 30before30 lis t is going strong, I've managed to tick a fair few things off and more are in the planning stages! Completed so far: Spending New Year in another country Trying a National Dish Go to the Sky Garden for cocktails Planning stages: Run a marathon - In a moment of madness my application for the London marathon is in, got to wait till October to find out! Buy a house Rewatch every episode of Friends - Season 10 to go! Let's see, what else has happened... I've flown from one marketing nest to another as the Marketing Chick (punny) which is very exciting. My best friend got engaged (major yay moment in my life). I have started reading and getting my inner bookworm back on track, likewise the running has started up again (see aforementioned ma

New Year. New Me.

Lol jokes. Last year was fabulous so let's just keep going. Christmas was good... Lots of cheese and wine - yum. Great time with the family, playing games and catching up with people. Lovely jubbly. Then for New Year the uni girls and I hit Amsterdam... Best New Years Eve ever. So so much fun but my jolly was it tiring! Ticked spending new year in another country off my 30 before 30 list though! So what's new...? Welcome welcome to 2017. This year I am going to blog more - I know, I know, I say this EVERY YEAR... but I am honestly attempting to blog more in 2017. There's more to talk about, and it's time I penned it all down (typed). So expect more posts, but maybe slightly varied... not all marketing and social media... more about me and what's going on throughout 2017 including travel, my new years goals, the 30 before 30 list and many more exciting adventures! I am definitely ready to take 2017 in my stride and achieve some personal goals! Anyone else got
